After the Wildfire

After the Wildfire - Overview.jpg

Here is some information (and a few tips, strategies, and Videos) for the After the Wildfire Challenge. As always, different people will have different strategies. So, use this information, try some of these strategies if you want, or develop your own and see what works best. Using your best Survivors will usually give you the best chance at earning more stars, so work with what you have!!

Here’s an overview of some of my general Challenge and Guild Tips that discuss and show some of the strategies mentioned here that can help you get more stars.

There are plenty of Heroes that could be useful that I may not have listed (including Daryl for many newer players as everyone should have him); it depends on which Heroes you have unlocked and the prestige you have them promoted to.

Feel free to share any strategies or videos in the comments!! Take note of any videos that rely on Weekly Event Class Damage Bonuses (especially Hunter and Assaults) as those are only useful during those events, and are often misleading as to how to best beat a map. Thanks to everyone from the NML community and the Eh family for their contributions!

A BIG THANKS TO TERMINATES FOR SHARING HER STRATEGIES ON HER VIDEOS! She is an amazing player and you can learn a ton by watching her play and listening to her! And don’t be impatient, watch those ADs before the videos (and the same goes for any YouTuber you enjoy)!

A note about Videos: most of these videos are from very high level players, beating high RSL maps. That doesn’t mean that you will be able to beat the same levels! The number of pink stars shown on some of these Survivors allows higher levels to be beaten more easily. Take the strategies, and try to apply them to whatever is a tough level for you. Don’t compare your level with the levels in these vids; use the strategies to help you get as far as you can!

Please note that when you start getting to the repeat levels of difficulties, you can get an extra Tank or Armored Walker in the map. NG likes to make things more difficult!

And please check the spawn blocks on the early stages of the maps as NG can change these at any time. They worked when I first created this page in July of 2017.

A note about Burning Walkers: if you attack a burning Walker with a Melee Survivor, you will still take damage (even with the Pitchfork/Kingdom Spear weapon on Scout). However, the damage taken when you attack with Melee usually isn’t enough to bruiser the Survivor.

A note about Spiked Walkers: you cannot use Wrestler to win a struggle against a Spiked Walker; any struggle is supposed to result in instant death.

Blind Spot

Blind Spot - Overview.PNG

Overview: Make your way to the exit.

Potential Strategies: Beware of the Burning Walkers, so don’t overextend yourself too early. When the map gets tough, block the early spawns, but it’s not really possible to block the spawns at the end of the map.

  • Potential Heroes to use:
    • Abraham: More Damage and Health is always helpful if you use Ranged Survivors! A Legendary Abraham can also be very helpful with Defensive Stance and Iron Skin!
    • Sasha: The chance at turning Body Shots into Charge Points can be very helpful. Sasha can be very useful even at low Prestige Levels.

Secret Factory

Secret Factory - Overview.PNG

Overview: Kill all the Walkers.

Potential Strategies: Be careful not to move too far on your first or second move. Wait near the beginning of the map (probably with Ranged Survivors), and let the Burning Walkers and the Spiked Walker make their way to you. Incendiary Trait on Hunter rifles is great to slowly kill the Spiked Walker while you keep your distance from it.

Approaching Horde

Approaching Horde - Overview.PNG

Overview: Open the fence while dealing with constantly emerging Walkers.

Potential Strategies: Since there are no spawn waves, Ranged Survivors are a safe option. You may want to use your highest health Survivor to open the gate (perhaps Bruiser or Assault). You may be able to manipulate the first Spiked Walker to the bottom of the map by placing your Survivors there, but that still needs some testing. Doing this would create more time to open the gate. Only worry about the first Spiked Walker, as the second Spiked can’t reach your Survivors before the gate opens. Watch the video by Terminates to see a clever way to position your gate opener!

After the 1st turn opening the gate, two Normal Walkers will emerge. Use these two Walkers to try to get the remaining charge points for your Survivors.

After the 2nd turn, a Spiked Walker and many Normal Walkers emerge.

After the 3rd turn, another Spiked Walker and many Normal Walkers emerge.

Normal Walkers will emerge every other turn. You can easily farm this map for XP on easy levels.

This map will be one of the tougher maps to beat in this challenge. You must keep the first Spiked Walker away, as Wrestler isn’t supposed to work against them. If you have a rifle with Incendiary, try to set the Spiked Walker on fire, and use your charge points on it. Using Interrupt and Piercing on a ranged Survivor may give you a better chance when the map gets very tough. You also must be very careful of the Normal Walkers that spawn close to the van on the last two waves.

  • Potential Heroes to use (especially as a Fence Opener):
    • Abraham: More Damage and Health is always helpful if you use Ranged Survivors! A Legendary Abraham can also be very helpful with Defensive Stance and Iron Skin!
    • Sasha: The chance at turning Body Shots into Charge Points can be very helpful. Sasha can be very useful even at low Prestige Levels.

Junkyard Dwellers

Junkyard Dwellers - Overview.PNG

Overview: Secure the location by closing the fence and the container.

Potential Strategies: After every turn, one Normal Walker will emerge from the open fence and container. First close the fence while keeping the Walkers away from your Survivor. If possible, charge up all your Survivors first, you will need it!

After you close the fence (or container), a Spiked Walker and many Normal Walkers will spawn. If you move your Survivors to the lower left part of the map and close the container first, you can create a safe distance from the Spiked Walker, but not sure how easy it will be to get to that position when the mission gets very difficult.

Junkyard Dwellers - Spawns.PNG

Closing the container first will create more distance between you and the Spiked Walker, and you can block the two Walkers that spawn next to the container, but you can only shoot the Walker emerging from the container with the bottom Survivor in the spawn block position:

Junkyard Dwellers - Container.PNG

Alternatively, if you close the fence first, you can create a little distance by placing your Survivors as shown in the picture below. It may be tough to protect the fence opener on tough missions, but you can get lucky and have the Spiked Walker spawn on the other side of the car, and be in “Wandering” status and possibly walk away from your Survivors! If a Walker spawns only one space outside of the gate, they can’t reach your Fence Opener in two moves, so don’t worry about it and position yourself to take on the the Spiked Walker. You can also retreat with your fence opener to a safe position (from the Spikey), if it spawns closer to you.

A charged Shooter (or two, or 3!) can deal some massive damage to the Spiked Walker. If possible, use a weapon with Destructive and/or Ruthless Trait to deal as much damage as possible. You can’t stun a spiked Walker, so an Assault charged attack is only effective against the Normal Walkers.

After you’ve dealt with the Spiked Walker, finish up by closing the container.

Abandoned Camp

Abandoned Camp - Overview.PNG

Overview: Open the crates and car trunk and get to the exit.

After you open the middle crate, two Walkers will spawn here, so make sure you have Action Points remaining to kill them; watch Terminates video for the proper order and strategy for opening the crates and avoiding the Tank Walker!

Abandoned Camp - 01.PNG

After your turn a Tank Walker will emerge from the tent.

Potential Strategies:

Watch Terminates’ video for an amazing strategy on this map!!

When this map gets difficult, sacrificing a Survivor with Wrestler to the Tank may be the best option. If you try to back off and kill the Tank, you may find yourself overwhelmed by all the spawning Walkers.

    • Jesus: If you use teams of Melee Survivors, more Damage and Health is very helpful.

  • It takes all 3 Survivors to block both Walkers that may spawn in the pic above. Using two Survivors will only block one of the Walkers from Spawning.

Forest Farm

Forest Farm - Overview.PNG

Overview: Open the boxes and make your way back to the exit. Walkers will come from the barn (and from below the barn) every turn.

Potential Strategies: Opening the crates from farthest to closest is a very good strategy, but you can also open a few crates along the way if you are having trouble killing Walkers with only one or two survivors. Use your bottom Survivor, and move them a half move (if safe from the Walkers) to open the first bottom crate. Doing this will allow you to reach the second bottom crate on the next move with the same non-Scout Survivor:

IMG_0061.PNG

The top Survivor can easily get to the top crate (then the second top crate) on the first two moves.

You can block the spawns that come every turn if you need to:

Forest Farm - Spawn Block 01.PNG

Forest Farm - Spawn Block 02.PNG

When this map gets very difficult, the difference between getting 3 stars or 1 or 2 stars may be luck. If you get the 3 unlocks very quickly, 3 stars will be very likely; if it takes 5 or 6 crates to get all the unlocks, then it will be much harder to get 3 stars (this is when opening the furthest crates first can be very helpful). Two Walkers don’t usually emerge from the barn and below the barn until after your 3rd or 4th move, so if you can get to the crates quickly, you can probably get back to the exit without much confrontation. If you need to open the last 3 crates, try opening the box closest to the barn before the other remaining boxes if you can, and move backwards from there.

    • Jesus: If you use teams of Melee Survivors, more Damage and Health is very helpful.
    • Rosita: If you use a Scout or two to open the boxes, Rosita can help give them more damage.

Spawn Locations:

Forest Farm - Spawns 02.PNG

  • Note that a couple of those spawns are the ones that spawn every turn.

Spawn Blocks: You can block every spawn, but it’s impossible to block all the Walkers in the bottom right of the map. If you get stuck in that area of the map before a spawn, move yourself onto an edge of the map (preferably by the barn) so you can hit as many Walkers as possible (preferably with an Assault or Hunter).
