Here is some information (and a few tips and strategies) for the Army Base Challenge. As always, different people will have different strategies. So, use this information, try some of these strategies if you want, or develop your own and see what works best. Using your best Survivors will usually give you the best chance at earning more stars, so work with what you have!!

Here’s an overview of some of my general Challenge and Guild Tips that discuss and show some of the strategies mentioned here that can help you get more stars. For a list of Potential Heroes to use, click on the link above.

Please share any strategies or videos in the comments!! Please take note of any videos that rely on Weekly Event Class Damage Bonuses, and use the Bonus to your advantage. Thanks to everyone from the NML community and the Eh family for their contributions!

Please note that when you start getting to the repeat levels of difficulties, you can get an extra Tank or Armored Walker in the map. NG likes to make things more difficult! And at level 30.4, you will start to get spawning Tank/Armored Walkers.

Each time this map comes back, make sure to check any spawn blocks that you use when the map is still easy. NG can change these at any time.

All Around the Watchtower

Overview: Find the 3 unlocks in the 6 crates and make your way to the exit. There are 3 green tents that will spawn Walkers after your turns.

  • Turn 2: Armored Walker from middle tent
  • Turn 3: Armored from middle tent, Normal from each left and right tent
  • Turn 4: Normal from each left and right tent
  • Turn 5+ (after spawn wave): Normal from left tent

Spawn Blocks:

Every one of these Spawn locations can be blocked. The first picture is probably the most important spawn block, as it can be used to block the Normal Walker that constantly spawns from the bottom left tent.

You can block 3 walkers from spawning if you need to:

Potential Strategies:

  • Lineup Recommendation:
    • 1st Position: any class
    • 2nd Position: Ranged
    • 3rd Position: Scout

A Scout can reach all 3 of the crates on left side of the map in the first move. For every other class, the leader position can reach the top middle crate on the first move. Since an Armored Walker spawns from the middle tent after the second move, it’s probably best to try to open the crate next to that tent first.

Here’s my progression of moves:

  1. Move your middle ranged survivor on the outside of the survivor in the Leader position.Moves 01.PNG

  3. If the path is clear, open the top middle crate with the survivor in the leader position, and open the crate by the tent with your Scout. Even if there’s a Walker in the spot shown below, your Survivor will be safe.Moves 03.PNGMoves 04.PNG
  4. On the 2nd move, open the far crate with your Scout, move your two other survivors into the spawn block position if the spawn wave is coming, or else just move to the right hand side:Moves 03.PNGMoves 04.PNG
  5. Work your way towards the end of the map, utilizing spawn blocks when needed.Moves 05.PNG

Tip: You can open the last box from the exit zone. So if you are needing to finish the map, open the box from the zone, then bring in your other Survivors.

Out in the Open

Overview: Open the gate (5 turns to open). There are 2x Normal and 1x Armored walkers to initially deal with. Walkers will continue to spawn every turn from the right most side of the map (including Armored Walkers).

  • 1st turn: 1 Normal from right part of map
  • 2nd turn: 1 Armored, 2 Normal from right part of map
  • 3rd turn+: 1 Normal from Top and Middle Tents, bottom right pile, 1 Armored

Potential Strategies:

You can reach fence on the second move with any survivor class placed in the “Leader” position. If you can’t make it to the spot where Maggie is standing on your first move (with a non-scout), you won’t be able to start opening the fence on the 2nd move, unless you use a Scout.

A Scout can reach the gate in 2 moves from any position on the team. Opening the gate as quickly as possible will be very helpful when the map gets difficult.

If you have already started opening the fence when the first Armored Walker spawns in the location below, it probably won’t be able to reach your Survivors, so you can probably just ignore and focus on the Normal Walkers that will spawn closest to you:

So, bring your Survivors that can best kill one Armored and the two initial Normal Walkers, and then deal with the Normal Walkers that will spawn from the top and bottom middle tents. Taking a Scout (to finish off the initial Armored Walker, then open the fence) and your two best Ranged Survivors may be a good option for trying to hold off Walkers in this position:

Overview: Set the explosives (2 turns), hit the detonator (1 turn), and get to the exit.

Potential Strategies:

With a Scout, you can start setting the explosives on the first move from any position. Unfortunately, you can’t make it from the gate to the detonator in one move with the same Scout.

When you start setting the explosives, a Normal Walker will emerge from the left tent  and the right side of the map.

  • 1st turn: Tent and right side
  • 2nd turn: tent and right side
  • 3rd turn+: tent, bottom left, ride side

So, be careful not to start setting the explosives without any Action Points remaining since a Walker can emerge from the tent and attack your Survivors.

Try to detonate the explosives with Action Points remaining on your Survivors, or at least get a safe distance away from any walkers since the Walkers that spawn after you blow up the gate will advance if you have no Action Points remaining. After you detonate the explosives, you will get 2x Armored and 2x Normal Walkers spawn near the exit. Having an Assault charged up and ready to stun will give you a good chance to reach the exit.

Overview: Kill all the Walkers.

Spawn Locations:

Walkers will spawn after every turn until you complete the map. Here’s the starting Walkers I initially encountered (1x Armored, 4x Normal):

Potential Strategies:

Use your best Ranged Survivors and try to shoot the Exploding Walkers when they are close to many other Walkers. Stay near the bottom middle of the map to keep distance from the Explosive Walkers that spawn. I will test out spawn blocking some of the tougher walkers a bit later.

Point of Entry

Overview: Open the door (2 turns) and get to the exit.

Spawn Locations:

After the first move, Walkers will spawn from the tent on the left, and the from the pile on the near the door on right side of the map.

  • 1st Move: Armored, Explosive, 2x from pile on right (can be spawn blocked)
  • 2nd Move: Explosive, 2x from pile on right (can be spawn blocked)
  • 3rd Move+: 2x from pile on right

It may be risky, but you can try to block the first two spawning walkers by placing your Survivors here:

Potential Strategies:

You should be able to avoid the Armored/Explosive Walkers that spawn after the 2nd move as long as you start opening the Door on the second move. Focus on the getting to the door as soon as possible and clearing out the right side of the map.

Overview: Open the 3 crates and get to either of the exits.

Spawn Locations:

Walkers will spawn at the top middle of the map after your 2nd turn (in between Arya and Serena in the picture below.

Spawn Blocks:

You can’t really block any of the spawns, but you can line up a hunter to shoot as many walkers as possible.

Potential Strategies:

From the 3rd position, a Scout can only reach the middle crate. From the 1st/2nd position, the Scout can reach the top left crate on the first move. You can’t reach the top right crate on the first move with a Scout, or on one move after opening the middle crate.

Be careful not to move too far, since there are Armored and Explosive Walkers hiding in the shadows; you don’t want your Ranged Survivors overwatching and shooting an Explosive Walker next to your teammate.

When this map gets difficult, it will be much harder to reach the exit on the right since Walkers will spawn on it. It may be best to try to open the top right box first, and make your way back to the left exit.
