Hilltop

Hilltop - Overview.jpg

Here is some information (and a few tips and strategies) for the Hilltop Challenge. As always, different people will have different strategies. So, use this information, try some of these strategies if you want, or develop your own and see what works best. Using your best Survivors will usually give you the best chance at earning more stars, so work with what you have!!

Here’s an overview of some of my general Challenge and Guild Tips that discuss and show some of the strategies mentioned here that can help you get more stars.

Please share any strategies or videos in the comments!! Take note of any weekly Class bonuses that may have helped out! Thanks to everyone from the community and the Eh family for their contributions!

When watching videos, please take note of the Survivor Levels and Pink Stars compared to the Recommended Survivor Level (RSL) of each mission. Certain strategies don’t work on higher RSLs with certain types of Survivors. Use the videos to learn new strategies and use them when you can, but they aren’t meant to be “Walkthroughs.”

There are plenty of Heroes that could be useful that I don’t mention here. It all depends on your play style and rarity of certain Heroes, but I find Abraham and Sasha to be useful at any level, especially Sasha and Assaults.

Please note that when you start getting to the repeat levels of difficulties, you can get an extra Tank or Armored Walker in the map. NG likes to make things more difficult!

Main Gate

Main Gate - Main.PNG

Overview: Open the gate and make your way to the exit. When you start opening the gate, a Tank will spawn in the bottom left after the first turn, and the bottom right after the 2nd turn.

Potential Strategies: Ranged Survivors are very useful on this map; they help attack multiple walkers from a distance. You can use a survivor with high Health to open the gate (Assault or Bruiser, maybe Abraham if you use Ranged) as you don’t want the gate opener going into a struggle which means you have to start opening the gate all over again. If you use a Hero, you probably want them opening the gate, and use your other two (probably stronger) survivors to keep the walkers away.

If you can’t spawn block the first Tank, he can cause some trouble. It’s possible to lure the 2nd Tank on the bottom side of the barrier and it may not reach your Survivors with a little luck.

  • Potential Heroes to use:
    • Abraham: More health and damage for ranged Survivors is always helpful.
    • Sasha: Turning body shots in charge points can really help.

Spawn Locations:

Spawn Blocks: Spawn blocking the regular Walkers is not a good idea on this map; you want to stay next to the gate so you can get to exit ASAP.  However, if you want, you can try blocking the first Tank that spawns on the first move after you start opening the gate:

  • You can block this spawn with your Survivors, or even with the spawn wave if you start opening the gate right before the spawn wave (see videos below).

Shut It

Shut It - Overview.PNG

Overview: Deal with numerous Walkers and then shut the gate. BE CAREFUL, AFTER KILLING A CERTAIN NUMBER OF WALKERS, NUMEROUS TANK WALKERS WILL SPAWN!!

Potential Strategies: Use your Survivors that are best at killing Armored and Tank Walkers. When you need to close the gate, you must keep killing the Walkers that constantly emerge from the gate to keep them off the gate closer. Assaults and Hunters are viable options, but so are melee (especially with Power Strike).

  • Potential Heroes to use:
    • Abraham: More health and damage for ranged Survivors is always helpful.
    • Sasha: Turning body shots in charge points can really help.

Spawn Blocks: You can prevent some of the Walkers from emerging from the gate area.

Green Thumb

Green Thumb - Main.PNG

Overview: Get the 3 unlocks and move to the exit.

Potential Strategies: Any type of Survivor is viable on this map. Ranged are good for taking out the Walkers more quickly, but melee (especially Scouts with Threat Reduction) can reduce/eliminate the Spawn Waves if you can isolate the walkers from their larger groups.

  • Potential Heroes to use:
    • Abraham: More health and damage for ranged Survivors is always helpful.
    • Sasha: Turning body shots in charge points can really help.

Museum

Museum.PNG

Overview: Kill all of the Freemen.

Potential Strategies: It’s usually best to just Overwatch a turn or two and see if any of the Freemen will come to you. You don’t want to overextend yourself and leave your Survivors vulnerable. If one of the Freemen is a Warrior, try to spread your Survivors out a bit; often Warriors won’t attack unless they can hit multiple Survivors.

This is one map that I actually like to use a Bruiser (at least on lower levels). The Freemen can give you trouble at lower levels, so to avoid losing a star on this map (before you lose stars on other maps), patiently move a space or two at a time, with your Bruiser in the lead. Overwatch to let a Freeman charge and the Bruiser will stun them if your other two Survivors can’t kill them!

  • Potential Heroes to use:
    • Abraham: More health and damage for ranged Survivors is always helpful.
    • Sasha: Turning body shots in charge points can really help.
    • Dwight: More damage against Freemen can help.
    • Any Hero with Retaliate: When this map gets tough, Retaliate can come in very handy.

Videos:

  • This is a mid to lower level strategy I use when your Bruisers can still stun the Freemen. Sometimes this map and the Freemen can cause star loss at earlier levels than the other maps.

Trailers

Trailers.PNG

Overview: Open the 3 boxes and get back to the exit.

Potential Strategies: Any combo of Survivors could be useful on this map. When the map gets tougher, try to keep your Survivors near each other so the spawn waves don’t overwhelm a single survivor.

  • Potential Heroes to use:
    • Abraham: More health and damage for ranged Survivors is always helpful.
    • Sasha: Turning body shots in charge points can really help.

Spawn Locations:

Spawn Blocks: You can’t really block any of the spawns, but you can position your Survivors on the far top left or right and keep all the Walkers on one side of you.

Next Door

Next Door - Overview.PNG

Overview: Open the 3 crates and get back to the exit.

Potential Strategies: YOU CAN CLOSE THE DOORS ON THE TRAILERS! This will prevent Walkers from continually coming out of the doors. When this map gets really tough, often I will only close the top door, then work on opening the boxes as it can get very tough to close both doors and open the boxes while dealing with spawn waves.

Since this map is pretty tight, Hunters and Assaults are my preferred classes, but a Scout could be useful for their extra distance.

  • Potential Heroes to use:
    • Abraham: More health and damage for ranged Survivors is always helpful.
    • Sasha: Turning body shots in charge points can really help.
