Run Away

Run Away - Overview

Here is some information (and a few tips and strategies) for the Run Away Challenge. As always, different people will have different strategies. So, use this information, try some of these strategies if you want, or develop your own and see what works best. Using your best Survivors will usually give you the best chance at earning more stars, so work with what you have!!

Here’s an overview of some of my general Challenge and Guild Tips that discuss and show some of the strategies mentioned here that can help you get more stars.

Please share any strategies or videos in the comments!! Please take note of any videos that rely on Weekly Event Class Damage Bonuses (especially Hunter/Assaults/Shooters) as those are only useful during those events, and are often misleading as to how to best beat a map. Thanks to everyone from the community and the Eh family for their contributions!

There are plenty of Heroes that I do not list that could be useful depending on who you have unlocked, and how many traits you have unlocked. I find Sasha and Abraham to be useful at almost any level!

Please note that when you start getting to the repeat levels of difficulties, you can get an extra Tank or Armored Walker in the map. NG likes to make things more difficult!

Lost Bunker

Lost Bunker - Overview.PNG

Overview: Make your way to the exit while dealing with Fire Walkers and a Tank Walker. Beware of the Tanks that emerge from the ground. Fire Walkers will also spawn from the two piles on the map, but not until after the 2nd turn (I think).

Potential Strategies: Run around the first two ground traps, and set up in the Spawn Block position. Get an assault charged and shoot the Tank from far away. Alternatively, you could also run across the traps (preferably with Scouts for extra distance), and try to avoid the Tank Walkers that emerge from the ground and the one that starts on the map (see Terminates video below).

  • Potential Heroes to use:
    • Abraham: If you use ranged survivors, more damage and health is very helpful.
    • Sasha – Turning body shots into charge points is very helpful when the map gets difficult.
    • Dwight – More damage against Tanks and Freemen could be helpful.
    • Gabriel – If you are using the Scout method, more luck and dodge is helpful if you find yourself in a tough situation.

Opposing Forces

Opposing Fences - Overview.PNG

Overview: Make your way to the exit. There will be a couple of Freemen (Scout and Bruiser and Warrior) on the early portion of the map, and multiple Tank and Armored Walkers in the second part of the map behind the fence.

Potential Strategies: Typically, one Freeman is visible to start the map with proper movement. A Hunter or Shooter with High Powered weapon trait is a good way to shoot him, then get him to charge on the second move, possibly with a second Freemen charging. I also like interrupt on my shooter weapon to stop the Freemen from charging too far, but you could also use a Bruiser or any melee with Interrupt to prevent them from attacking. Deal with those two (or just one Freemen), then move along the top of the map to expose the third Freeman and finish him off (sometimes the walkers will take care of the 3rd Freeman). This map is much tougher to let the Walkers engage the Freemen as only 3 Walkers will potentially spawn in the map section with the Freemen (but the spawns are closer to where your Survivors will be), but you can always wait for the spawn wave and hope the walkers engage the last of the Freemen. Here’s a picture of my typical first move: Opposing Forces - Opening Move.PNG

As the difficulty increases, it becomes harder to kill all the Walkers behind the gate while dealing with the Walkers spawning behind you, so try to get through as quick as possible. The incendiary trait on a Hunter may be very useful to get the walkers on the other side of the fence to burn out. And getting an Assault charged up and stunning the remaining walkers is a great way to make a run for the exit on your last move or two.

  • There can be a second Walkers in the lower left part of the picture, just outside the frame.

  • You can block the top spawn location. This is probably the most useful spawn block.

The Delivery Man

The Delivery Man.PNG

Overview: Open the crates while dealing with Walkers and two Freemen (one ranged and one melee).

Potential Strategies: Keep your distance from the Freemen and try to pit the Walkers against them. I will typically hang around the beginning of the map (using the second pictured spawn block) hoping the Freemen will be killed by the walkers. Shooters with Gold High Powered can be very valuable to shoot Freemen from outside their range.

The Traverse

The Traverse - Overview.PNG

Overview: Make your way to the exit while dealing with Walkers and 3 Freemen (two ranged and one melee).

Potential Strategies: This map is pretty difficult to attack the Freemen while staying out of their range. Shooters with High Powered (gold) could do the trick, but the ranged Freemen will still charge. I will typically hang around the beginning of the map and hope the Walkers will take care of the Freemen. This usually doesn’t happen, so it’s a tough level to earn 3 stars on when it gets more difficult.

Spawn Locations:

Spawn Blocks: Most of these spawn blocks require 2 or 3 survivors to block one spawn point.

Mainroad

Mainroad - Overview.PNG

Overview: Kill the Walkers, open the gate, and make your way to the exit.

Potential Strategies: First, deal with the 3 Normal and one Tank Walker. While one Survivor opens the gate, shoot the Tanks on the other side of the fence and kill the continually spawning Walkers behind you. Incendiary on a Hunter Rifle can help get the Tanks to burn out a bit while you keep the Walkers on the left side of the fence away from you.

Spawn Locations: These spawns aren’t always the exact same location.

  • This could be useful when it takes a few turns to kill the initial Tank Walkers.

  • You can’t completely block this spawn, but a two survivor variation may come in handy.

River Cabin

River Cabin - Overview.PNG

Overview: Open the gate (3 turns) after killing numerous Normal and two Tank Walkers.

Potential Strategies: You need to advance as fast as possible since the number of moves before spawn waves are very low. If you are using ranged at higher difficulties, you will probably need to hang back and block the spawn at the beginning of map, get your survivors charged up, then make a run for it! But, even the spawn block doesn’t do a lot to help since numerous walkers will still be spawning within striking distance.

When opening the fence, I use this setup to ensure walkers only spawn far away: River Cabin - Gate Opening.PNG

  • Potential Heroes to use:
    • Rufus: As the difficulty gets higher, you will often only have two moves before spawn waves, so Rufus can help get quicker charged attacks.
    • Abraham: If you use ranged survivors, more damage and health is very helpful.
    • Sasha – Turning body shots into charge points is very helpful when the map gets difficult.
    • Dwight – More damage against Tanks could be helpful.
